Madeline Oldham: Resumes

Madeline Oldham: Bio

A recent graduate from Hofstra University, Madeline is passionate about art, theater, children's media, education, and the ways they intersect to empower youth of all ages. Looking to work alongside dedicated creatives to provide an exciting space and opportunities for young people to grow.

Madeline's teaching experience spans across many settings. As a student teacher and substitute during the pandemic, she was able to learn traditional classroom skills alongside a wide range of online teaching strategies. She was able to implement these skills when leading a summer school class of English as a second language students and her many online tutoring clients through freelance work and the Varsity Tutors service. She continued her teaching at PLAYDAY, a children’s art studio space teaching classes for toddlers, elementary aged students, and middle schoolers. She lead and age-appropriate classes across all different artistic mediums both on-site in studio spaces as well as off-site in school partnerships. She went on to lead other teachers first in an assistant manager role as well as a studio manager role. She is known for her creative and curious approach to teaching and her ability to engage students with academic and artistic topics by connecting it to their interests.

Additionally, Madeline has abundant experience teaching and developing SEL curriculum in the nonprofit setting. She began volunteering as a teaching artist at the 12.14 Foundation/NewArts for their ARC character development and emotional well-being program in 2018. These lessons taught students impacted by the Sandy Hook Tragedy about how to develop and engage with their character strengths, emotional intelligence, confidence, resilience, and grit. She would go on to spend the summer of 2019 and the summer of 2020 as the program coordinator and revamp the curriculum modules to be developmentally appropriate for the company's different grade groups (K-4, 5-6, 7-8, and 9-College) and connect with the theater mastery experience. She lead and trained a team of teachers in best practice for facilitating these lessons and transitioned the entire program online for the summer of 2020. Her expertise in these topics lead to her teach emotional well-being and confidence masterclasses to several different groups and organizations on Hofstra's campus.

She has currently grown in her role within PLAYDAY to serve as the Director of School and Community Partnership Development as well as Regional Director of Operations for PLAYDAY’s Brooklyn Region. She has been an asset in developing lesson plans for different core programs at PLAYDAY as well as growing their art programming and community reach. Her background in traditional education informs her supervision of other managers and allows her to offer coaching on behavior management support strategies and working with neurodivergent students. She loves her team and her students alike!

When not working, you’ll find Madeline attending a concert, cooking up a new recipe, or taking an art class herself to keep growing her own skills.
